EU Develop 'New Deal' to Tackle Youth Unemployment
Page content
See here for the EU press release explaining the issue and what they plan on doing about it. The range of initiatives include:
- A proposal for a Council Recommendation to introduce a Youth Guarantee - A Quality Framework for Traineeships
- A European Alliance for Apprenticeships
They explain the Youth Guarantee this way:
The Youth Guarantee, based on experience in Austria and Finland, seeks to ensure that all young people up to age 25 receive a quality offer of a job, continued education, an apprenticeship or a traineeship within four months of leaving formal education or becoming unemployed. The Youth Guarantee is one of the most crucial and urgent reforms required to address youth unemployment and to improve school work transitions.
- More information is available on theGuardian live blog covering the event and
- Hollonde’s keynote speech. Bloomberg has outlined that the issue is really one of credit availability, although that is probably just an answer to the issue of small company growth and not so much youth employment.
I am sure that there will be critics of this effort. Stay tuned.
