Citizens' Press joins in commemoration of Mandela, a true revolutionary
Nelson Mandela has passed away at the age of 95. Mandela championed the struggle for a free South Africa, becoming the figure head of the anti-apartheid movement.
Born to working class parents, Mandela became involved in the fight against the racist South-African Apartheid regime. During the 40+ year struggle in which Mandela was instrumental, he was imprisoned for 30 years.
His leadership along with countless others who sacrificed for a free South Africa lead directly to the African National Congress’s (ANC) electoral victory in 1994. The ANC victory symbolized the victory for the majority black South Africa over racist and segregationist form of government.
For most of the 20th Century, Nelson Mandela has been a symbol and a leader against all forms of oppression. For working people, his story remains an inspiration for the struggles that lie ahead.
Today, Citizens’ Press joins with those around the world who morn the loss of a hero who fought against all odds and won.
Tomorrow, we will honour his legacy and continue the struggle of equality and justice for all.
