by Faiz Ahmed — last modified Jun 23, 2017 05:28 PM
"So far, none of the five candidates has had anything particularly noteworthy to say. It has been variations on the same tired NDP tropes: income inequality; poverty reduction; the working-class poor; affordable housing; the homeless. No one denies these are important issues. But where is the captivating vision that breathes new life and offers fresh solutions to these age-old problems?"

Justin Trudeau deploys the politics of hype. Jeremy Corbyn offers politics of hope | The Guardian

"In Canada, the closest parallel to Corbyn’s positive program, as well as its media vilification, has been the Leap Manifesto. Canada’s elite opinion-makers wheezed that this broad coalition’s agenda – public ownership of key sectors, taxing corporations and the wealthy, and respecting Indigenous rights as a way to combat climate change - was electoral hemlock, beyond the shade of reasonable opinion. Polls showed the opposite: that a majority of people support it. Now Corbyn’s success proves beyond a doubt that, in these volatile political times, it can form the basis for a winning electoral program."

by Graham H. Cox — last modified Jun 08, 2017 02:13 PM
The United Steelworkers (USW) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) are working together to build a stronger voice for Cogeco technicians and customer support workers across Ontario. Cogeco technicians install, repair and maintain cable and Internet services for customers and are taking part in a campaign to join the USW. Cogeco's customer support and administrative staff in its contact centre operations are engaged in a campaign to join CUPE. Cogeco workers are pleased to see USW and CUPE move forward in a cooperative and coordinated way as they exercise their right to form a union. Among the contact centre workers' top concerns are improving shift scheduling, fairer performance targets, disciplinary measures and personal break times and responding to health and safety concerns.
